Located in Central Mali on an island within the inland Niger a few hundred miles downstream from Timbuktu is Djenné, one of sub-Saharan Africa’s oldest cities founded about 1219 years ago(800 AD). Djenné was a natural trading hub in the 17th and 18th Century for traders who shuttled their goods between the Sahara Desert and the forests of Guinea. It’s also famous as a centre of Islamic education and famous for its adobe architecture, a vibrant market square that is still dominated by the monumental Great Mosque. Mali is not a great contender, but it has proven that it is a great African tourist country.
Africa has a lot to offer but only a few people get to see, feel and experience the undiluted beauty and adventures Africa has to offer. There are so many tourist destinations in African countries to choose from most of which are still under-explored this makes Africa a great choice for an adventurer.
